Meet Our Therapists

Illinois Valley Counseling Services (IVCS) is unlike any other psychotherapy practice in LaSalle County. We provide services to LaSalle County and the surrounding area. Our therapists specialize in meeting the needs of infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. We have therapists who treat both mental health and substance use issues. Additionally, IVCS can provide individual, couples, and family therapy. Our therapists will develop an individualized treatment plan with you. IVCS also maintains relationships in the community, and with your permission, can work with organizations such as schools, probation, attorneys, physicians, and other agencies to help you reach your goals. We believe anyone can benefit from counseling. Many of our clients are successful individuals, who know that everyone has the potential to grow—to change.

Rebecca Amble, LCSW

Rebecca is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about working with individuals, couples and family in coping with life’s difficulties. Rebecca strives to instill positive relationships to build trust, strengthen self-esteem, and to promote emotional healing. Prior to Rebecca’s experience in private practice, she worked as a Child Welfare Worker for the State of Illinois. She also has experience in assisting students in the public school system that deal with social and emotional challenges, grief counseling, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Rebecca earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She earned her Master's Degree in Social Work from Dominican University in River Forrest. Rebecca is also currently attending Aurora University working on her Doctorate in Clinical Social Work. Lastly, Rebecca is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

Bruce Dannenberger, LCSW

Bruce is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He has 42 years of professional experience. Bruce has worked for 20 years at a local behavioral health agency with 3 years as Outpatient Supervisor and 15 years as Clinical Director. He had a private practice for the past 19 years specializing in Mood Disorders with particular emphasis on Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder.


Bruce has an eclectic approach and also utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat conditions, when appropriate.


Bruce received his Master's Degree from University of Illinois-Chicago.

Dawn McCollom, LCSW

Dawn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She has over a decade of experience providing counseling services. Dawn has been in private practice setting for the past 6 years. Prior to that, she worked in a community agency providing counseling and case management services. Dawn has experience in working with clients of all ages. She provides individual, family and couples treatments. Dawn is experienced in working with issues of Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders, Stress Management, Anger Management, Relationship Issues, School Issues, Peer Pressure, Self-Esteem Building, Sexual Abuse, Child Abuse and Neglect, Partner Abuse, and Family Discourse. Dawn will work with the client(s) to determine an individualized approach designed to best meet their needs.

Dawn received her Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University in Social Work and her Master's in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis.

Nina Miller, LCPC

Nina is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). She has worked in a range of therapeutic roles over the last several years before settling into private practice, including residential therapist, inpatient behavioral health case manager, correctional counseling Supervisor and Behavioral Health Director of Grundy County.


Nina specializes in couples counseling, family therapy, mood disorders, chronic long-term mental illness, stress management, anger management, work related struggles, and life role transitions.

She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed her Master's degree at Lewis University.

Wendy Navarro, LCSW

Wendy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has many years of experience in the Behavioral Health field. Recently, Wendy served as the Administrative Director of Choices Behavioral Health at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. Prior to that role, Wendy was employed as an addictions therapist at the local community mental health center. Wendy is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission-Human Rights Authority.


Wendy specializes in individual therapy for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, insomnia and life-role transitions.

Cindy Slagle – 

Operations Manager

Cindy has worked as a mental health professional at a community mental health agency for many years. She joins IVCS to manage daily functions, marketing, human resources, community relations and much more.

Shawn Slagle, LCSW, ACSW, QCSW 

Shawn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He has many years of experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. In conjunction with being the Owner of IVCS, Shawn is employed by the Department of Veteran Affairs, working with the men and women who have courageously served our country.


Shawn has extensive training in the following evidenced based treatment modalities:

  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy for the treatment of PTSD
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for the treatment of PTSD
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy for the treatment of Depression.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the Treatment of Depression

    and Anxiety

Shawn holds a Bachelor of Social Work from University of St Francis and Master of Social Work from Aurora University.

Jaime Palacios, LCSW

Jaime is a Licensed Clinical Social worker with several years of experience working with children and adolescents, ages 3-17, adults of all ages, families, from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Her most recent clinical focus has been working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing an acute mental health crisis in emergency settings as well as providing clinical supervision. Jaime has experience with crisis intervention, lifestyle transitions, family conflict resolution, grief and trauma recovery, behavioral and school issues, as well as providing clinical support and treatment to those experiencing life-long mental health concerns, such as severe depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. In addition to working with individuals and families coping with short-term and long-term mental health concerns, Jaime has several years of experience working with individuals that have experienced domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and sexual violence. Jaime obtained her bachelor of social ‘work degree from the University of St. Francis and her Master of Social Work degree from Loyola University of Chicago.

Jaime views therapy as a partnership, one built with mutual respect and humor, and her role as a psychotherapist as someone who provides a warm, genuine, and safe environment to address concerns and make meaningful life changes. Every individual is viewed as having unique strengths, experiences, and concerns, with the ability to learn, to grow, and to heal at their own pace. Jaime sees herself as a support during this journey.


Each individual therapeutic experience is tailored to these unique strengths, needs, and goals. Therapeutic treatment modalities include the following, based upon age, as well as client needs, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy Mindfulness, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Play Therapy Integrated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Play Therapy Integrated with Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

James Visinaiz, MA LCPC

James is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). He has a wide variety of clinical experience including children, adolescents, adults, couples and crisis work. He has 14 years experience in an inpatient hospitalization setting with a variety of areas including Partial Hospitalization Programs, intensive outpatient programs, depression, anxiety, autism, schizoaffective, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. He has worked at a wide variety of hospitals including Linden Oaks in Naperville, Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale heights, and OSF in Ottawa.


Jim specializes in couples counseling, anxiety, depression, family therapy, mood disorders, chronic long term mental illness, stress management, anger management, work related struggles, children and adolescents, and life role transitions.

Matt Sprong, LCPC 

Matt is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. He has several years of experience working with people with various disabilities. He has been providing adjustment to disability counseling for several years to people with disabilities and has been employed as an addiction’s specialist in the past.


Matt utilizes an eclectic approach to the counseling session an employs solution-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when appropriate.


Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville, and a Master of Science in PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling, specializing in Addiction Studies.
